What equipment qualifies under Section 179?

Almost all types of business equipment qualify for the Section 179 deduction.  Businesses need equipment in order to operate successfully and competitively, whether it is machinery, computers, software, furniture, vehicles, or other qualifying equipment.  Section 179 is designed to provide incentive to businesses to invest in themselves with the equipment that they need.


♦ Equipment (machines, etc.) for business use;

♦ Tangible personal property used in business;

♦ Business vehicles with GVW exceeding 6,000 Lbs;

♦ Computer hardware and software;

♦ Office furniture and equipment;

♦ Property attached to a building that is not a structural component of the building, such as a printing press, large manufacturing tools, and equipment;

♦ Equipment purchased for a combination of business and personal use may qualify and will be based upon the percentage of time used for business purposes.
